Rewilding Illustrations
During my Masters degree I decided to focus my research on the fascinating topic of rewilding. Re-introducing lost species like wild beavers, bison and lynx bring massive benefits to the UK through diversifying our landscape. In my illustrations, I wanted to show a window into the world we have lost and a hint on how we can replenish the land
Creatures of the Sea Illustrations
My final BA exhibition was inspired by the local coastline of Aberystwyth. Since moving here I've been struck by the diversity alongside the coast and after many adventures exploring rockpools of giant spider crabs to colourful sea urchins I decided to write and illlustrate the book Creatures of the Sea. Working in watercolour I wanted to show off the colourful mysteriyous world under the sealine.
Butterflies of the UK Project
For many years I have been fascinated with butterfly photography and I wanted to use my collection of photos to create my own butterfly book illustrated in oil paintings. The slow process of oil paints allowed me to capture every detail of each butterfly so each butterfly could to be easily identified by someone beginning to learn UK butterfly species.
The Fox & the Child Dust Cover Design
This Dust Cover was designed as a practice book cover inspired by one of my favourite childhood films, The Fox and the Child. Using a mix of watercolours and Indian Inks I wanted to capture a glimpse of the beautiful French Landscapes this story was set in, bringing a sense of childhood wonder as the unlikely friends went adventuring through woodlands, caves and mountains.
The Landlady by Roald Dahl Illustrations
This project came with the guidelines of being black and white so I decided to use dip pens with Indian ink. The simplicity of colour allowed me to concentrate more on the composition and textures of each illustration. Working along sides the text I enjoyed using my imagination to create the intricate backgrounds adding a wide range of button eyed taxidermy.
